A news flash is a short piece of news that is broadcast before or during the break of another program. It is also sometimes known as a special report or a breaking news story.
A good newsflash will have a narrative hook, such as an anecdote or a question, that catches readers’ attention and provides a preview of the weightier argument or evidence that is to come later. It will also follow the inverted pyramid structure, putting the most important facts at the top and then providing further details that support those facts, including quotes and background information. It will also cite the source of the story. Finally, a newsflash should end with a look toward the future, which will add a sense of urgency and a call to action.
The main advantage of a newsflash is that it can be broadcast very quickly, especially if it is about a very major event. However, its short length also means that it can only cover the basics of a story and cannot be used to develop stories like the midday or evening bulletins. For this reason it is usually not necessary to include a full analysis of a story in a newsflash.
This module is similar to the Articles one in that it lets you set how many articles are displayed on a page but has some additional parameters which make it more useful for news-type articles. You can link titles, choose the header tag (defaults to H4) and show / hide Intro Text as well as filter by Category and tags.
