Global affairs refers to the interactions between nations on a worldwide scale and covers issues such as diplomacy, trade, and security. They also include the role of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations in world governance, economic development, human rights, and the environment.
The study of global affairs is highly interdisciplinary and spans disciplines such as political science, international relations, history, sociology, economics, geography, and law. The interdisciplinary nature of the major allows students to tailor their coursework to their own interests and career goals by choosing their area of concentration.
As the world becomes increasingly interdependent, you will need an in-depth understanding of the diverse influences that impact different societies, cultures, and economies. With a degree in global affairs, you will be able to navigate complexity and lead with purpose in the face of today’s most pressing challenges.
Sacred Heart offers an interdisciplinary major in global affairs that allows students to customize their curriculum according to their own career goals. Our program will equip you with the skills to succeed in our interconnected world, whether you want to pursue a public or private sector career or continue on to a graduate degree in a field such as law or business.
All students who wish to major in global affairs should take introductory courses in economics, politics, and history. In addition, all prospective global affairs majors should plan to take GLBL 2121 in the fall of their sophomore year. Students who plan to take a summer or term-time course abroad may have those credits count toward their major requirements with DUS approval after they return to Yale.
